Food producers and retailers scoop top industry awards
Thursday 10 November, saw the prestigious Quality Food Awards presented at The Park Plaza Hotel, London where Britain’s leading food and drink producers and retailers were honoured.
The awards are highly regarded as the ‘Oscars’ of the food and drink industry and reward products on sale in UK grocery outlets.
Lidl took home five awards, winning silver Q Awards in the Biscuits, Cakes and Morning Goods, Cereals and Cereal Bars, Ethnic Ready Meals and Fish categories.
Asda and Tesco each won 10 Awards for products available in their stores and consumers will be able to identify these products by looking for the Quality Food Award logos on pack.
This year saw the introduction of the ‘Packaging Award’ which recognises the important role of packaging in the retail success of a product. The first recipient of this award was the Marks & Spencer Omega 3 Boost Salad Bar by Caledonian Produce.
Young’s Seafood products won three awards on the night, ‘Junior Q’ for their ASDA Haddock Fish Fingers and the ‘Value Frozen ‘ category for their ASDA Smartprice Fish Fingers. They also beat the rest of the value products to be awarded the ‘Value Gold Q’.
The Awards culminated with the presentation of the prestigious Gold Q. The winner was Tesco Finest Greek Yogurt by Futura Foods UK, which was selected from among the winners of each of the main Q Award categories and signifies the product which really stands out as the best of the best.
