Quality Food Awards 2012

Local Food

 About the Award

The growth in local food has been nothing short of phenomenal. As consumers become more aware of the environmental impact of ‘food miles’, a new and growing section of the market has developed and the local food category celebrates this sector.

The category is open to any local food producers employing fewer than 10 people and with annual sales of no greater than £1 million, whose product labelling makes reference to the local provenance of the product. Judges look for UK locally sourced ingredients in the production of a genuine local food product.

In order to assist local producers the entry fee is reduced to £51.50 plus VAT.

A senior representative from the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games will be attending the judging sessions. They will be looking for a range of local products to have on sale at the games in 2012.

“As the Games grows ever closer , we are delighted that we are able to support the Local Food Category at the Quality Food Awards again this year. We will use the games to celebrate and promote the huge variety and quality of British Regional and Local food.

We are committed to ensuring a lasting sustainable legacy after the Games to inspire a  lasting positive legacy and a great foundation for the promotion of Local healthy food.”
